Following Xiaomi’s announcement of several Mi devices earlier this week including the Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Lite 5G, Mi Smart Band 6, and Mi Mix Fold. Despite this announcement late in March, Redmi’s Product Direct Wang Teng Thomas hinted to a commenter that a new device will be launching in April.
After a Weibo user commented that there’d be no new phones in April, the Redmi Director responses with a question indirectly admitting that Redmi would be launching a new phone in April.
Redmi’s upcoming smartphone was recently rumored to pack the Dimensity 1200 chipset, which is reportedly comparable to the Snapdragon 870 in performance. It was recently reported that Redmi’s upcoming device is codenamed ‘Ares’ and based on previous reports, we may be looking at a new gaming smartphone with physical shoulder triggers.
Other rumored specs include a 5,000 mAh battery, support for 65W charging, and a flat OLED display with punch-hole selfie camera – manufactured with Samsung’s new E4 panel. Pricing is expected to be in the range of CNY 2,000 to 2,500 ($300-380) as it may be one of the cheapest gaming smartphone to hit the market. According to PlayfulDroid, there’s a possibility the Redmi phone may arrive to the Indian market with POCO branding, perhaps marketed as a POCO F series smartphone.
